Communication Infrastructure of Jharkhand: A Comprehensive Overview

1. Postal Services in Jharkhand

  • The Jharkhand Postal Circle was established on January 12, 2001, after the formation of the state.
  • It continues to operate under the Bihar Postal Circle.

3. Doordarshan (Television Broadcasting) System

  • The first Doordarshan Kendra in Jharkhand was established in Ranchi on 25 September 1984 during the Sixth Five-Year Plan.
  • After the launch of INSAT-1B satellite in 1983, low-power transmitters were installed at:
    • Dhanbad
    • Dumka
    • Deoghar
    • Bokaro
    • Jamshedpur
    • Hazaribagh
  • A high-power Doordarshan transmitter center was later established at Medininagar (Daltonganj).

  • Jharnet (Jharkhand State Wide Area Network):

    • An autonomous body formed on 29 March 2004 to promote IT and e-governance projects.
  • JSAC (Jharkhand Space Applications Center):
    • Established in 2003 by the Department of IT & e-Governance in collaboration with ISRO.
